Arriving in Costa Rica

We made it!

With one hour of sleep and an early morning I ventured to the airport to embark on the Costa Rican journey. Flights were pleasant and smooth sailing. In fact, I sat next to a young woman who shared a story about her study abroad trip to Guatemala where as a nurshibg student, she and her classmates spent time with an ancient Mayan community that was convinced that the babies whom got ill had been possessed by an evil spirit. The Mayans' response was to starve  the evil out of the babies, where these babies then dehydrated to their deaths. It became clear to me that there is a lot of good that can come from study abroad programs.

Once settling into the Irazu Hotel, we had some time to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the travels. After an overly seared tuna dinner, we gathered for an orientation to discuss minor business details and the plans for the upcoming day, as well as tentative plans for the week. It was here that I finally grasped that we are here and ready to explore.

Well, it's off to bed for me. Can't wait to get started bright and early tomorrow.
